Discover the Hidden Origin of Uji Tea in Wazuka, Kyoto

Wazuka is not just a village—it's the spiritual home of Uji tea, where centuries-old tea fields ripple across the hills like waves under the sky. This immersive journey begins with a visit to a sacred 1,300-year-old cedar tree, a local symbol of quiet strength and tradition.

From there, you’ll be guided through Wazuka’s most scenic tea fields, where fresh sencha is served in the open air—alongside stories of the seasons, harvest rituals, and the lives of local farmers.

Returning to Osugi-ya, a beautifully restored 150-year-old Japanese inn, you’ll participate in a hands-on tea workshop. Led by Ken, a bilingual tea guide and cultural interpreter, you’ll learn how to prepare both sencha and matcha—from leaf to cup. Discover subtle differences in aroma, temperature, and technique, and experience the meditative joy of whisking matcha by hand.
This premium tour is perfect for travelers seeking not just a taste of Japan, but a deep connection to its tea soul.

What makes this activity unique is the depth of cultural connection it offers. Unlike typical sightseeing tours, this experience is led by a bilingual local host who has deep roots in Wazuka and a passion for tea culture. You’ll gain insight into the hidden stories of the region—from ancient tea traditions to the everyday lives of tea farmers—shared in fluent English, with warmth and humor.

Because the group size is kept small (maximum 10 people), each guest enjoys a more personal, immersive experience. This allows for meaningful conversations, custom pacing, and direct interaction with both the guide and local people. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a seasoned Japan traveler, this tour provides a rare opportunity to explore Wazuka not just as a destination, but as a living, breathing community shaped by tea.

It’s not just about seeing tea fields—it’s about understanding what they mean.
